María Poblet is a Berkeley Rent Board Commissioner, and the Chair of the Committee on Evictions. She is a Latina mom raising a family in Berkeley, with 10 years experience co-managing West Berkeley’s 9th Street Community Land Trust Housing Cooperative. She brings a racial equity and community organizing perspective to the work of rent stabilization. She is the founding Executive Director of Causa Justa :: Just Cause, the largest tenant-serving organization in the Bay Area, which is rooted in Black, Latino and working class communities who are most vulnerable to displacement. She has spent her life on the frontlines of social movements for progressive change. She is a co-founder of Bay Resistance, Bay Rising, the Alameda County Immigrant Legal and Education Program, Alameda County United in Defense of Immigrant Rights, and the U.S. Chapter of the World March of Women.
